Reading Center Activities
Sound Circles are appealing hands-on reading center devices that invite children to pick them up, to practice, and to participate! Each illustraded Sound Circle (printed on a colorful array of letter-size heavy weight cover stock) contains a specific sound phoneme, such as an, ell, ay, eg, at, etc. A corresponging white circle, containing a collection of beginning consonants, is to be attached to the colored phoneme portion with a small round head fastener. Thus, whenever a child picks up a particular SOUND CIRCLE and revolves the underneath circle, a collection of rhyming words is formed! Available in 8 different volumes, requiring cutting and laminating, SOUND CIRCLE materials provide excellent vocabulary and spelling reinforcement for primary grade youngsters. Illustrations do not provide sound clues. Volumes 1-A, 1-B, and 1-C are designed expressly with Distar orthography and correspond to Reading Mastery vocabulary. For teachers using a basal reading program, Volumes 2-A, 2-B, 3-A, and 3-B, and 5 are intended. Approximately 15 sound families are contained in each of the following volumes:

Sound Circles in the following 5 volumes display high frequency vocabulary words found in most basal reading programs. Each Sound Circle presents a specific collection of rhyming vocabulary for independent decoding practice. These popular hands-on learning tools are excellent for classroom reading centers, independent reading workshop sessions, and special interest areas. They are also valuable resources for use at home by parents and tutorial aides working with children. All materials in these booklets have been printed on a colorful array of heavy weight cover stock; additional coloring of the illustrations is optional. Lamination is recommended to provide extra wear and durability when used in school settings.
